Anonymize car photos

Make license plates and faces on car photos unrecognizable in seconds – free and no sign-up.

How to anonymize car photos for selling: upload a photo → Verpixle detects the license plate and faces automatically → download the result and put it in your listing. No sign-up, servers in the EU, privacy-focused, in full resolution. Ideal for eBay Kleinanzeigen, mobile.de, and AutoScout24 – the plate and people in the image stay unrecognizable, and the car still looks great.

Why anonymize car photos before selling?

A visible license plate in an online listing is a privacy and security risk. The plate is personal data: it allows conclusions about the keeper, and fraudsters use photographed plates for fake sales listings, fuel fraud, or manipulated re-registrations.

On top of that come faces and reflections: in paint, windows, and rims you often see yourself, passersby, or the surroundings. House numbers or doorbell labels in the background also reveal more than you'd like. A quick anonymization protects you before thousands of people see your listing.

Note: This is not legal advice. There is no explicit legal requirement to blur your own license plate – but it is common and strongly recommended practice.

Step by step: illustrate your car listing anonymously

  1. Upload a photo. Drag your car photo into the field on the homepage – no account, right in your browser.
  2. Blur automatically. Verpixle detects license plates and faces and blurs both in one step. The strength can be set from light to strong.
  3. Download & post. Save the result in full resolution and upload it to Kleinanzeigen, mobile.de, or AutoScout24.

What Verpixle detects on car photos

Faces run on the YuNet model, license plates on a YOLOv11 model that, at high input resolution (up to 1920 px), also finds small, distant plates on 4K photos. The overview below shows detection performance by shooting situation:

Shooting situationFacesLicense plates
Frontal & close (standard listing photo)Very goodVery good
At an angle / car in 3⁄4 viewGoodVery good
Small / far away (background)GoodGood
Partially obscured / dirtyGoodGood
Strong reflection / backlightLimitedLimited

Values are based on the model architecture used (YuNet + YOLOv11) and typical sales photos. In difficult lighting, give the result a quick visual check and, if needed, set the strength to „Strong“.

Blur or black out – which is better?

Both make the license plate unrecognizable. Blurring (strong blur) looks more natural and is the standard for sales photos. The only thing that matters is sufficient strength: a very weakly blurred plate theoretically allows conclusions, whereas a strong blur destroys the information practically irreversibly. Verpixle uses a strong level – for license plates we additionally recommend the „Strong“ setting.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to make the license plate unrecognizable when selling a car?

There is no legal requirement, but it is strongly recommended. A license plate can be used to identify the keeper; visible plates in online listings make fraud and unwanted conclusions about you easier. Blur license plates and faces before you upload photos.

Is it enough to blur just the license plate?

Often not. Car photos frequently also show people, house numbers, or reflected faces in paint and windows. Verpixle detects license plates and faces at the same time – still, give the result a quick visual check.

Are faces and people in the background detected too?

Yes. Verpixle also detects small, side-on, or partially obscured faces – such as passersby or reflections. For strong reflections, we recommend a quick visual check.

Does anonymizing car photos cost anything?

No. Blurring photos is free and usable without sign-up. Fair limits apply to file size and video length.

What happens to my uploaded images?

Your photos are processed exclusively on servers in the EU, transmitted encrypted, and automatically deleted after at most 24 hours. No AI training, no sharing.

Does this work for mobile.de, AutoScout24, and eBay Kleinanzeigen?

Yes. Verpixle produces normal JPG/PNG files in full resolution that you can upload to any platform.
