Video formats: MP4 and MOV
Verpixle accepts two containers: MP4 and MOV. That covers what smartphones, action cams and dashcams usually produce – iPhones normally record MOV, Android devices and most cameras MP4. Formats such as AVI or MKV are not processed. The output is a newly encoded video in the H.264 codec: the picture track has to be written anew because the pixels change. The audio track, by contrast, moves into the output file unchanged, with no second compression and no loss of quality.
Moving faces and license plates stay covered
With a photo it is enough to mark a spot once – in a video that is not enough: people walk through the frame, cars drive past, the camera pans. Verpixle therefore analyzes every single frame again and places the blocks exactly where faces and license plates actually are at that moment. Positions from the previous frame are not simply carried forward, and no frames are skipped. If a subject moves, the blurred area moves with it; if a face briefly disappears behind an obstacle and reappears, it is detected again.
The resolution the detection works at rises together with the resolution of the video. A small license plate at the edge of a Full HD recording is therefore more likely to be found than it would be with a fixed, low analysis size. That still costs computing time: a short, high-resolution clip is small as a file but more demanding to process than a longer video at low resolution.
Limits: size, length, resolution
Every video is checked against fixed upper limits before it starts. If a file does not fit, you find that out immediately – and not halfway through processing:

Longer or higher-resolution footage is rejected before processing begins. In that case, cut out the relevant section or scale the clip down to Full HD – every common video editor can do both.
Dashcam footage, YouTube and social media
As soon as a clip leaves the private sphere, a memory becomes a publication. That is particularly often the case with dashcam material: other people's vehicles, license plates included, and other road users are unavoidably in the picture.
- Dashcam and motorcycle camera. License plates of the vehicles ahead and faces at the roadside disappear before the clip goes to a platform.
- YouTube, Reels and Shorts. Vlogs from the city center show passersby who know nothing about the recording. One pass is enough to anonymize them.
- Construction site, workshop, company. Documentation videos can be cleaned up before they are shared internally or publicly.
- Real estate and vehicle sales. Walkthroughs and vehicle videos often show neighbors, passersby and parked cars – license plates included.
Legally, motion changes nothing about the standards: a video recording also shows likenesses – under German law, § 22 KUG generally requires consent before they are distributed. A license plate, in turn, can be linked to a registered keeper and therefore counts as personal data; anyone who publishes it needs a legal basis under Art. 6 GDPR. Anonymized material spares you that assessment in many cases.

Which video formats can I upload?
MP4 and MOV. The service does not process other containers such as AVI or MKV – convert those files beforehand.
How long may the video be?
Up to 120 seconds, that is two minutes, at a file size of no more than 200 MB. Trim longer footage in advance to the section you want to publish.
Is the audio in the video preserved?
Yes. The audio track is copied into the result without re-encoding and therefore sounds exactly like the original. Only the picture is changed.
Which resolution is supported?
Up to 1920 × 1080 pixels, that is Full HD. The service does not accept larger resolutions such as 4K. The aspect ratio and the orientation of the picture stay unchanged.
Are individual frames skipped?
No. Every single frame is analyzed – the service does not check only every second or fifth frame and carry the result forward in between.
Is this suitable for dashcam footage?
Yes. Faces and license plates stay covered across the whole clip, including oncoming traffic and fast pans. The same upper limits of 200 MB, 120 seconds and Full HD apply.
How long do my videos stay on the server?
No more than 24 hours. After that the service deletes the original and the result automatically. Processing takes place exclusively in the EU, and no AI training takes place.
